Larry loved family and hunting, combining the two every chance he got. Here he is with  his wife Marcie; the boys on their last hunt together—from left to right, son-in-law Nathan Rivinius, son-in-law Matt Hager, Larry and son Chris; and the beautiful Black Hills buck Larry killed on that hunt.

My name is Matt Hager and I have had the great privilege to call myself the son-in-law, hunting partner and best friend of Larry Baesler for many years. My mother-in-law Marcie and the rest of our family want to express our greatest thanks for the prayers, strength and love you all at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation have shown over these past months. We take great comfort in knowing you all have been and will continue to pray for us.

The Elk Foundation was not just an employer for Larry, it was a family. Larry always understood the importance of conservation but through the RMEF he developed a passion for it. I believe that people like Larry are the reason the foundation stands at the forefront of wildlife conservation in our country today. Each of you should take great pride in knowing you are a strong family that can come together in good times and in bad.

Larry was a true outdoorsman, one who could hunt the wild country and preserve it both at the same time. I remember one day he and I were talking about a land acquisition, and he said, “You know, we never actually own land, we’re just temporary stewards of it.” That’s the kind of man he was.

Again, I thank you on behalf of the Baesler family for all that you have done. At this sad point in our lives I could not be prouder to call myself a member of such a great organization.

Sincerely,

Matt L. Hager
