The Elk Foundation’s acceptance of the Torstenson Wildlife Center (TFWC) from Bob Torstenson included the understanding that the ranch be used in part for educating people—especially youth—about conservation and wildlife. We take this charge seriously, maintaining that the best way to cultivate future conservationists is by sharing knowledge and teaching skills in the field.

Planting the Seed
Activities hosted by the TWC include a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America to conduct a High Adventure Base Camp on the ranch. Between 900 and 1,200 scouts annually participate in this outdoor living and hiking adventure. And TWC and the Boy Scouts now offer the same high adventure backpacking trips for Elk Foundation youth.

In addition, we conduct conservation days for local youth, fly fishing clinics, hunter education classes and guided ranch trips for youth and adults. Other conservation education opportunities in the works include youth hunts, conservation field days for area schools and programs in higher education.
