Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is a three-day workshop hosted by state and provincial wildlife agencies to teach women hunting, fishing and other outdoor skills while promoting positive outdoor experiences for women. In addition, several states now offer advanced single topic adventures. More than 20,000 women attend BOW events each year.

The Elk Foundation became a sponsor of the international BOW program in 1994. Since that time, we have helped fund workshops in 43 states and 8 provinces. Every year, we give the national BOW program funds to support their work. At the state level, much of the funding we provide is directed toward scholarships for women who cannot otherwise afford the cost of the workshop. BOW workshops are hosted at our annual Elk Camp and Expo.

BOW provides experiences for women likely not available to them otherwise. These experiences lead to a deeper understanding of conservation and hunting, and many times participants take their newfound knowledge home and share it with others, particularly their children, fostering a commitment to conservation within the family.
