Albuquerque, New Mexico
October 7-8, 2017
Did you know the first passengers in a hot air balloon were a sheep, a duck and a rooster? As far-fetched as it may seem, it was actually scientifically sound at the time. Because of this first launch, now hundreds of mammoth-sized hot air balloons fill the skies of the Rio Grande Valley at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
We want to extend a personal invitation to share this unique experience with us as man, aircrafts and nature combine for an awe-inspiring adventure for the Step Up in the Sky event. We’re so excited to be the hosts, October 7-8, in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a special RMEF get-together set against the backdrop of the Balloon Fiesta. From its beginnings in 1972, when a mere 13 balloons ascended, the Fiesta has grown to more than 750 crafts a year participating in the nine-day event. From the early Dawn Patrol to the evening’s Balloon Glow this truly is an event for all ages to enjoy.
Our time at the Balloon Fiesta will be begin Saturday evening at 5 p.m. as we depart our host property, the upscale Sandia Casino & Resort, located only moments away from the balloon field. We’ll enjoy dinner and watch all of the activities from the Twilight Twinkle Glow to the most spectacular fireworks show all in the comfort of the Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum.
On Sunday, literally before the crack of dawn, we’ll head to the Fiesta Field to view the surreal canvas of colors in the sky as the Dawn Patrol lifts off. Around 7 a.m. the Mass Ascension of all the balloons begins.
From famed characters to flying pigs and frogs to the most elaborate color combinations ever found in the sky – this ascension is breathtaking!
Once back at the Sandia Casino & Resort mid-morning you won’t have to leave the property to enjoy your free time whether it be poolside, playing golf or enjoying the luxurious spa or casino. At 4 p.m., we’ll gather in the Eagle room to share stories from our early beginnings of RMEF to where we stand today and most importantly, discuss the challenges we face in an effort to save our wildlife and wild places. Our weekend wraps up with a private reception and dinner in the elegant Bien Shur Restaurant on the top floor of the Sandia Casino & Resort overlooking the vast beauty of Albuquerque.
The conservation of elk and elk country is in our hands. This intimate experience affords you the opportunity to help secure the future for those who follow in our footsteps by stepping up your financial support of RMEF’s conservation goals while having fun along the way with wonderful like-minded people.
We hope to see you there! Together we can make a difference.
