2017 Calendar Raffles at a Glance
By Don Blakley, RMEF Vice President of Eastern Operations
It’s already proven that statewide calendar raffles are a great way to generate additional revenue for RMEF and your chapter, build volunteer team work
, promote the RMEF mission, sell memberships and reach out to the non-member public. Of course
the calendar photos are also beautiful, and almost anyone would enjoy them gracing their wall. These raffles may also be developed for a profit center which encompasses several states. Regional directors, with assistance from state leadership teams (SLT) or chapter volunteers, normally put these together with assistance from RMEF’s Creative Services department. This is a great way the SLT can help move RMEF activities forward in a state.
Calendar pricing may vary, but in general
someone can purchase a 2017 RMEF calendar for a mere $60 and have the opportunity to possibly win 52 guns, plus bonus prizes. Firearm drawings are held weekly, and if you win, you go back into the drawing, hence the possibility of winning 52 times. Although rare, there have been multiple winners in past years’ drawings. Calendars are numbered, and several states use the state lottery numbers on a certain day each week to determine the winner.
With $25,000 to $40,000 worth of prizes available, this one is definitely worth the chance. Prizes for the raffle are not limited to firearms. Yeti coolers are also a popular item, and some states have added high-end donated items from local merchants. At times states will include a special additional prize in the raffle at pre-set points during the calendar year, such as Yeti cooler giveaways on major holidays.
Most calendar raffles are developed and sales begin in the fall for the following year’s drawings which normally begin the first week of January. At this time there are eight states selling calendars in preparation for 2017 drawings. California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin are actively getting out there to raise additional revenue for elk country. For more information about these state raffles, see the contact information at the bottom of this article. For those of you looking for something a little different—whether volunteering to sell calendars or just purchasing calendars for yourself or friends and family—this is fun way to do it. With the holiday season fast approaching, one of these calendars would make a unique and potentially exciting gift for someone who loves the outdoors. Take a chance and get yours today!
