A Family Outing with Your “Other” Family
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation prides itself on standing up for God, family, country, elk, hunting and conservation. We also like to have a whole lot of fun while doing so!
As you look at your summer vacation calendar, you may want to pencil in joining your fellow RMEF family members at one (or more) rendezvous or other gatherings scheduled across the nation. For many volunteers and members, these events are a highlight of the summer.
A rendezvous provides the opportunity to carry out hands-on work to improve wildlife habitat. Projects include pulling weeds, putting in or repairing guzzlers, pulling old barbed-wire fencing, removing encroaching conifers or various forms of restoration work. Once the work is done, volunteers often gather around the fire to enjoy new friendships and cement old ones by swapping hunting stories, sharing Dutch oven baked meals and goodies while sharing plenty of laughs.
Texas already kicked off the fun with its 5th annual rendezvous earlier this year. Other states will soon follow. Each rendezvous includes time to share success stories and brainstorm new fundraising techniques and strategies. There are also activities and games for youngsters to emphasize the importance of conservation, hunting and habitat enhancement for the next generation of hunter-conservationists.
If you’ve already attended a rendezvous, thanks for taking part. Help us spread the word. If you haven’t, reach out to your regional director and check the RMEF rendezvous and activity calendar below to make plans. We hope to see you this summer!
