$40K for Elk Country and Counting: Bass Pro Shops Hosts 2nd Annual Elk Country Conservation Month

By Dale Miller, Director of Field Operations-Division 1

In 2007 Bass Pro Shops and the Elk Foundation joined forces to launch the first annual “Elk Country Conservation Month.” The effort raised more than $40,000 for elk habitat!

Bass Pro is excited to host Conservation Month again in 2008. Throughout July, employees at Bass Pro Outdoor World retail stores will sell $2 donation tickets at their cash registers to support RMEF’s mission. For every $2 donation, contributors will be entered into a drawing for one of four prizes. This year’s grand prize is a Montana archery or gun combination elk and deer hunt for two people. Other prizes include $1,000 and $500 Bass Pro gift certificates and an RMEF Banquet Edition knife.

If your chapter has a Bass Pro Shops store nearby, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of Elk Country Conservation Month. Set up a booth at the store during July to promote memberships and sell additional $2 donation tickets along with other banquet raffle tickets. Funds raised will directly benefit your banquet and chapter. As an added incentive, each chapter that works three out of four weekends in July at a Bass Pro store will receive credit for all of the $2 donation tickets sold in that store during the entire month! This has the potential to greatly increase a chapter’s net dollars.

Bass Pro has no other promotions during July as they were so impressed by the efforts of our great volunteers last year that they will focus solely on the Elk Foundation! With over 50 Bass Pro retail stores nationwide, we believe this year will be an even greater success!

Bass Pro Shops’ founder Johnny Morris is a long-time friend and supporter of the Elk Foundation. The company underwrites the banquet knife each year and has donated hundreds of thousands of mission dollars. We are lucky to have such great partners!

For more information on setting up booths in Bass Pro stores, chapters should contact their regional director. This is a great opportunity to raise critical dollars for elk country!
