Ideas Worth Sharing: “Auction Credit” Raffle
By Jared Wold, Regional Director, Northern Idaho and Western Montana
Who wouldn’t love to win a grand to put toward the live auction at an RMEF big game banquet?
An “Auction Credit” Raffle does just that. It gives the raffle winner a $1,000 (or more or less, depending on the chapter’s size and needs) live auction credit voucher. The raffle setup itself can be one of many, including a card raffle, medallion raffle, theater ticket raffle, etc. The cost per ticket can be determined by the chapter’s need ($10, $20, $50 or $100).
A particularly good raffle setup is a “Bonus Bucks Raffle,” especially for those chapters that like the idea of a “Pick of the Herd” (POTH) raffle, but don’t want to eliminate any live auction items from a winner’s choice. A live auction credit voucher allows a live auction to play out normally without a POTH item being removed. It also adds a bidder that may not have planned to bid originally.
Of course, a raffle prize like this will need a disclaimer. Here’s an example:
$1,000 Live Auction Credit Voucher
Voucher can only be used by raffle winner night of banquet and expires at end of evening. Cannot be transferred to another attendee and has no refund value. The voucher can be used to purchase multiple live auction items up to $1,000 value. Any live auction balance over $1,000 requires payment from the voucher holder. For use in the live auction only, and does not apply to silent auction items, balance due for “Put it on Your Tab” totals, or any other balance due other than live auction purchases at the end of the night. If winner does not spend entire $1,000, the remaining balance is void.
