Philanthropy 101: Employer Matching Gifts
By Dave Kelner, Major Gift Officer
Did you know that RMEF chapters get “full credit” for matching gifts from employers or other sources? Basically, this program does just what it says—it will match your donation, often dollar for dollar. Money doesn’t come much easier than that!
We have a list of companies that currently match gifts to the RMEF at www.rmef.org. Click on “Gift Recognition Programs,” then “Employer Matching Gifts” and you will find a list of participating businesses. If your company is not on the list, it still might match gifts to the Elk Foundation.
To receive a matching gift, contact your employer’s personnel office for the correct application form, complete it, and return the original application and Worksheet No. 7 to RMEF headquarters for processing. It’s that easy! The matching gift will be credited to your chapter as soon as the paperwork is received (including the match).
Your cash donations (including Habitat Partner gifts), Sponsor or Life Memberships (tax-deductible portion), auction item purchases (above fair market value) and volunteer hours can also be doubled or at least increased through matching gifts.
Companies participate in RMEF’s Matching Gifts program because it helps boost employee morale and build corporate image. Participating companies get an opportunity to do something beneficial for the wildlife and habitat that mean so much to their employees.
If your company doesn’t participate in a matching gift program, contact your RMEF regional director, major gift officer or headquarters staff to find out how to get one started.
