TWC Hunting Heritage

The Elk Foundation’s acceptance of the Torstenson Wildlife Center (TWC) from Bob Torstenson included the understanding that the ranch be used in part for educating people—especially youth—about conservation and wildlife. We take this charge seriously, maintaining that the best way to cultivate future conservationists is by sharing knowledge and teaching skills in the field.

Hunting Heritage Outreach Program
In 2009, the RMEF and TWC launched a hunting heritage program on the ranch targeted at giving youth from across the country the opportunity to learn and participate in elk hunting. RMEF/TWC provides annually approximately 30, three-day guided cow elk hunts to our chapters around the country to be sold or given away to a lucky youth who will hunt cow elk in New Mexico at the famous TWC.

Once at the ranch, the youth hunter will learn tracking, stalking, proper care for harvested game, and shooting skills. They will also learn about wildlife and range management techniques employed at the ranch as well as the other important mission work the RMEF engages in.
