Thanks for 25 Great Years
By Steve Decker, Director of Field Programs

On March 5–8, 2009, Elk Foundation members, volunteers and staff will come together in Fort Worth, Texas, to celebrate a milestone in our history: 25 years of protecting elk, other wildlife and their habitat.

For some members and volunteers it will be their 25th time attending Elk Camp, for others their first, and for everyone else some meaningful number in between.

For those who attended Spokane ’85, or any Elk Camp since for that matter, there is one indisputable truth:  Elk Camp is about people, most importantly RMEF volunteers.

Many elements of Elk Camp have evolved over time, but as with almost everything RMEF does, it simply couldn’t happen without the help of volunteers. From set up to the auctions and membership sales to tear down, you will always find RMEF volunteers working side-by-side with staff to make Elk Camp happen. Oftentimes these folks take vacation time from work just so they can attend Elk Camp and—work. That is some kind of dedication.

Yes, RMEF volunteers are special people—they are not only what makes Elk Camp so memorable—they are what makes the Elk Foundation great! Thank you RMEF volunteers, and congratulations for 25 years of outstanding efforts for elk country.
