Future Bugle Magazine Photo Needs
Posted 9/22/09
Hi all. Hope you are enjoying your fall thus far. I am including a list of our future needs for photo essays in Bugle. I do not know when each of these will run, but I wanted to give you the heads up so you can be on the lookout while you are out shooting this fall/winter.
Also, our Wilderness special section has been put on hold until future notice, so all of the images you sent after the last photo call will be kept on file until we get the go ahead to run the section. Thanks for your patience.
We are finally going to try and run our "Threats to Elk" photo essay in the Jan/Feb 2010 Bugle. I have a lot of images on file from the original request, but if you have new stuff you want to submit, please do. This will cover mainly human/environmental threats to elk and elk habitat, i.e, development, traffic, mining, etc. Please submit Threats to Elk images by Oct. 12.
Please find below our ideas for future Bugle color sections. You can submit your images for these whenever you want, or you can wait until I send out specific date requests. These essays won't start being used until our March/April 2010 issue.
Future Photo Essay Ideas
King of Clubs – bulls with crazy deformed club antlers ~ hard & velvet
Kung Fu Fighting – bulls, cows & calves kickboxing ~ if that’s too narrow, could expand to encompass the best of all shots of elk up on their hind legs
Bruised & Battered – bulls with beams &/or tines snapped off, hides freckled with puncture marks, scars on their faces, maybe nastier wounds …
Funny Faces – expressive elk ~ anger, alarm, funny and the just plain weird
The Guts of Elk Country – bass-gutted bulls, sow-bellied cows
Celestial Light – elk in shafts of divine honey-dripping light ~ all seasons
Shadowland – elk among cool shadows ~ all seasons
