Bugle Magazine Contributors Guidelines for Conservation, Natural History and Wildlife Management Essays and Articles

One of our goals at Bugle magazine is to help educate members about habitat conservation, natural history and wildlife management. We seek to publish an array of conservation articles and essays from a diversity of writers—from wildlife professionals who write well, and professional writers knowledgeable about wildlife and conservation.

If you decide to send an article or essay, here are the details: We accept unsolicited manuscripts, but prefer queries. Generally, articles range from 1,500-4,500 words. If you’ve composed your work on a computer, please include a disk with the hard copy. Or, better yet, send your query via e-mail to: pqueneau@rmef.org.

When you submit an article, you will receive a receipt acknowledging its arrival. We will evaluate your story based on our needs for the coming year, and I will respond to you within three months. If you have questions in the meantime, don’t hesitate to write or give me a call.

As a nonprofit conservation organization, dedicated to putting membership dollars into elk habitat, management and research, we appreciate donated manuscripts. However, we generally pay 20 cents per word.

Remember: Bugle is not a scientific journal. We publish for a general audience, avoiding scientific jargon, mathematical equations and complex charts and graphs. However, we will not oversimplify your concepts. If you plan to contribute an article, we suggest you read a few issues of Bugle and acquaint yourself with our style and content.

Or, if you’d simply like to discuss an idea, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.
