| “I’m never bored,” says 15-year-old Morgan Craft, the Elk Foundation’s youngest chapter chair, and it’s hard to imagine how she could be. Morgan, of Muncy Valley, Pennsylvania, just finished her freshman year at Sullivan County High School and chairs the foundation’s Tiadaghton Chapter in Williamsport. Her grandmother, Nancy Craft, suggested Morgan take the position of chapter chair to get a head start on her senior project.
Morgan served on the Tiadaghton Chapter for five years before becoming its chairperson. She also serves on the banquet committees of her local Ducks Unlimited and National Wild Turkey Federation chapters and is a lifetime member of the NRA. Morgan has appeared on television twice, once on an episode of Pennsylvania Outdoor Life about muzzleloader deer hunting, and once on Pennsylvania All Outdoors on a squirrel hunt. She is a member of the U.S. Junior Olympic Women’s International Skeet Shooting Team and the Sullivan County High School shooting team. “It’s all exciting to me,” Morgan says.
In addition to her extra-curricular activities, Morgan is at the top of her class and completed her senior project three years ahead of schedule. “That’s just the kind of kid she is,” says Morgan’s grandmother Nancy. Morgan plans to serve as chapter chair for another year.
When asked about his daughter’s serious commitment to the outdoors, Dave Craft said, “My kids have been raised in this. They have a full appreciation of the outdoors and our hunting heritage.”
Morgan and her father have been applying for Pennsylvania elk tags, but so far have had no luck. “I’ve been out West and hunted some myself,” said Dave. “That’s one of Morgan’s dreams, to get out there and do a little elk hunting.” |
