Kentucky was once home to thriving populations of Eastern elk, but by the mid-1800’s the state was completely devoid of elk.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources worked together to introduce 1,549 elk to the Bluegrass state in 1997.
