The Alaska Department of Fish and Game rejected a request to stop the hunting and trapping of wolves near Denali National Park.

According to a report in the Anchorage Daily News, there are approximately 70 wolves in the park which is in line with overall objective numbers. Biologists maintain the population is stable but the possibility of seeing wolves is down from past years due to “natural factors, kills by others wolves, and hunting and trapping next to the park.”

Alaska is home to a wolf population estimated between 7,000 and 11,000.
