Conservation officers in British Columbia need your help tracking down who is responsible for the poaching of two Roosevelt elk along the north shore of Cowichan Lake some 60 miles north and west of Victoria, British Columbia.
The first incident happened on Sunday, November 26 near Cottonwood Creek. Reports indicate a dark Dodge Ram was at the location.
The second incident took place on December 26 near the intersection of the North and South Shore Roads.
“It seems like the last few years we’ve had poaching activity just between Christmas and New Year’s; there’s less activity in the outdoors at that time and they seem to think they’re not vulnerable to Wilderness Watch or Conservation people,” Dennis Martel, a member of Wilderness Watch at Lake Cowichan, told the Lake Cowichan Gazette. “But, Conservation went out there and, sure enough, we had one that was poached in the Youbou area and there was another one farther west and two more were poached between Heather campsite and Kissinger Lake.”
