Elk NetworkElk Calf Saved from Pump House Vault

Talk about a team effort! Six men and a piece of heavy machinery worked together to solve a real life puzzle – how to lift an elk calf out of a hole in the ground in south central New Mexico.

According to a New Mexico Game and Fish tweet, it happened at a local theater in Alto/Ruidoso. The elk apparently fell into the vault of the theater’s pump house and could not get out.

A few Game and Fish officers put their heads together with a local contractor and a firefighter. They attached a large strap to a shovel of an excavator-like machine and eventually lifted the calf to safety.
