Elk NetworkMigration Study to Benefit Colorado Elk

General | September 25, 2018

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and several other partners provided funding to conduct an elk migration study in western Colorado.

According to goHUNT.com, the research will allow scientists to track elk movement and habitat use in the Gunnison Basin, which is home to approximately 15,000 elk. The goal is to monitor pregnancy rates, cow survival rates and calf mortality to determine the health of herds and their overall numbers.

Ultimately, the accumulated data will help managers more effectively manage elk and elk habitat.
