The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation maintains that Hunting Is Conservation. And that motto was a key theme at a recent Outdoor Skills Day in Pendleton, Oregon.

“You see a lot of people who don’t really understand what is,” Korie Campbell, event organizer, told the East Oregonian. “The future of conservation depends on the next generation. The goal is to get these kids exposed.”

In addition to RMEF, representatives from federal and county agencies as well as other outdoor groups hosted activities like archery, using trail cameras, skull and track identification, BB gun shooting and other skills and activities.

“My favorite part of today is going to be archery,” James Montee, age 12, told the East Oregonian.

Campbell, a student at the University of Montana and employee at RMEF’s headquarters, worked with her father, a RMEF volunteer in Pendleton, to make the event possible.
