Elk NetworkVirginia Members Push for RMEF License Plate

General | January 15, 2018

Members of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in Virginia are proud of their elk herd and want their voices to be heard. Now the Virginia General Assembly is listening!

Del. James Morefield (R-North Tazewell) produced HB 218, legislation designed to create a RMEF license plate. It would cost $25 with $15 donated to RMEF to benefit elk and elk habitat in Virginia.

On August 17, 2010, the State of Virginia Board of Game and Inland Fisheries approved a motion to establish a pilot program for the reintroduction of elk by stocking approximately 25 elk in Buchanan County in 2012, 2013 and 2014. RMEF provided both funding and volunteer manpower. Today that number increased to more than 150 elk and is expected to exponentially increase in succeeding years.

RMEF license plates are currently available in eight other states.
