Below is a Facebook post from the Black Hills National Forest, which straddles the South Dakota-Wyoming border.
A partnership was formed 30 years ago that has helped improve elk habitat and strengthen multiple uses on public lands across the Black Hills.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has worked with the Black Hills National Forest to protect and enhance prime wildlife habitat since 1990. RMEF has also provided funding for numerous projects through grant money, donated time and volunteer labor.
RMEF recently repaired a guzzler (water storage container that captures rainwater, snow melt and provides water for wildlife where there is not a natural water source) that was damaged by one of the tornadoes that swept through the northern hills earlier this summer.
RMEF’s goal is to have repaired seven decrepit guzzlers in the northern hills by year’s end.
