The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board will meet on April 10 to determine quotas for the 2019 elk hunt.
According to the Associated Press, the state can host an elk hunt if there are 200 or more elk in the Clam Lake region and/or 150 in the Black River region. Currently, there are more than 200 elk in Clam Lake but only 70-80 in Black River so the hunt will only take place in Clam Lake.
The meeting will take place in Madison and also include framework and regulations for the 2019 migratory bird season, among other issues.
More than 38,000 people in Wisconsin applied for the 2018 elk hunt, the state’s first-ever regulated hunt, which generated more than $270,000 for elk conservation efforts in Wisconsin.
