Fuel Conservation. Shape the Future.
For more than 40 years, RMEF members have stood shoulder-to-shoulder to ensure that elk, other big game and the lands they depend on continue to thrive. Every gift—large or small—helps conserve one square mile a day and strengthens the future of all big game and habitat across America.
Just as hunters once built the foundation of modern conservation, today’s donors carry that legacy forward. Your gift today shapes the conservation legacy of tomorrow—helping keep our landscapes and big game thriving for generations to come.
It is so easy. We make gifts of our stock so that our kids and grandchildren can hunt eastern elk one day. We know the restoration effort was made possible in part by our gift and did it so our grandchildren’s grandchildren will see elk in North Carolina.
Four Smart Ways to Give
Smart Ways to Give: Donor-Advised Funds
Your generosity fuels something bigger—helping RMEF conserve one square mile of habitat a day and achieve 10 million acres by 2030. A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a flexible and convenient way to make a lasting impact on conservation while maintaining control over your charitable giving.
A Simple Way to Make an Impact
Much like your own charitable savings account, a donor-advised fund allows you to contribute assets, receive an immediate tax deduction and recommend grants to organizations like RMEF over time.
By recommending a grant from your DAF, you directly support RMEF’s mission to enhance habitat, expand access and strengthen the future of elk and other big game across America.
You can also recommend that RMEF receive any remaining balance in your DAF as part of your legacy plans—continuing your impact for generations to come.
Smart Ways to Give:Appreciated Securities
Your investment in conservation helps RMEF conserve one square mile of landscape per day—enhancing habitat, expanding access and sustaining the hunting heritage that defines big game country. Giving appreciated securities is a tax-wise way to make your contribution go further.
A Win-Win for You and Conservation
By donating stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have increased in value, you may:
• Receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the asset
• Avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated amount
• Make a larger gift than you could with cash alone
For example, if you transfer stock valued at $10,000 with a cost basis of $1,000, your gift will be recognized for $10,000, and you may receive an income tax deduction for that amount while avoiding capital gains on $9,000.
If your stock has decreased in value, you may benefit more by selling it and donating the cash proceeds instead.
Smart Ways to Give:IRA Charitable Distribution
When you give through your individual retirement account (IRA), you create immediate impact for conservation—helping RMEF conserve one square mile of habitat a day and reach 10 million acres by 2030.
A Smart, Tax-Efficient Way to Give
Qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), also known as IRA charitable rollovers, allow individuals age 70½ or older to make direct gifts from their IRA to RMEF.
This approach offers several benefits:
- Your distribution is excluded from taxable income, which may help you avoid a higher tax bracket or increased Medicare premiums.
- It can count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD).
- It’s a direct transfer from your plan administrator to RMEF, making it a tax-free and impactful gift.
You can also name RMEF to receive any remaining balance or percentage of your IRA as part of your legacy.
