An Elevated Ecosystem

Mohab starts from a different premise. The name is short for mobile habitat: a vehicle-based system in which the shelter, the rack under it, the kitchen, the water, and the shade are designed for one another. The Mohab Creation Story

The idea came out of a failed night in 2020, when founder Panger Ye was on a remote track when a storm closed in. He fought a rooftop tent in wind and cold rain for about half an hour. The fabric soaked through. The frame flexed. Then it tore. He climbed down, soaked, and spent the night in the vehicle, listening to the tent beat itself apart. Lying there, the question was simple. Why does a shelter demand the most effort at the moment you need it most?

What followed was a refusal, not a redesign. Easier-to-make gear was not the point. Gear that is easy to use was. Mohab spent the next five years building to a hard internal standard: core pieces meant to go from packed to deployed in under sixty seconds, the point where fatigue turns into comfort. The ALTUS cabin opens automatically in under 60 seconds. Around it, racks, steps, awnings, kitchens, and water systems share fit, power, and intent.

“We can’t control the elements,” Ye says. “But we can create and control our own habitat.”

The ALTUS Hard-walled, Electric Cabin

The center of that habitat is the ALTUS, a powered hardwall rooftop cabin in standard and XL lengths. An aluminum frame and PET panels form a solid shell, not fabric you have to wrestle in the wind. FORTIS is the platform. Bed racks, bed canopies, and SUV racks are built vehicle-specific and mount to factory points, with no drilling. Aluminum construction carries a serious load, whether that load is an ALTUS or hunting and recovery gear, fuel, and water on a bare rack.
