Below is a news release from the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish.

According to statutory provisions, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish offer special enhancement hunting permits through raffles and auctions yearly. All proceeds from enhancement hunt permits are used solely for habitat enhancement, conservation, research and management projects in New Mexico. These raffles and auctions raised more than $1.7 million for conservation in 2023.

“Our robust conservation efforts will keep the Land of Enchantment beautiful for decades to come,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. “The work we do with our non-profit wildlife conservation partners is critical to our efforts to support future research, conservation and management projects.”

The department works with nonprofit organizations dedicated to wildlife conservation to carry out these auctions and raffles. The partner organizations this year included Ducks Unlimited, Mule Deer Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Wild Sheep Foundation.

“The department thanks all of our non-profit partners for assisting with this year’s auctions and raffles,” said Director Mike Sloane. “We look forward to investing funds earned from these enhancement hunts into the conservation of wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of current and future generations of New Mexicans.”
