The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police are investigating an alleged poaching of a mature bull elk on private property in the Eatonville area of Pierce County, approximately 60 miles south of Seattle.
“The hind-quarters, front shoulder and head of the elk had been taken,” Officer Prater said. “It is believed to have been shot during the day between the hours of 10:30am and 3:30pm on Sept. 30.” The landowner located a bull elk that had been shot and killed on his property in the area of the Alder Cutoff Road and Alder Mashell Road East.
“We are currently seeking assistance from the public to assist us in identifying any suspects or vehicles that may have been involved,” Prater said.
Anyone who might have information regarding the incident is encouraged to called the WDFW at 360-902-2928, visit the department’s website at wdfw.wa.gov by clicking on violations, or text WDFWTIP to 847411.
Those who provide information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward or bonus points for special permit hunting opportunities.
