Elk NetworkCow Elk Travels 100 Miles From Release Point in Wisconsin!

Conservation | August 12, 2017

Elk are known to be a migrating species. One particular elk in Wisconsin is certainly living up to that reputation.

A trail camera set up by a man in Barron County captured the image of a lone cow approximately 100 miles from where it was originally released in Jackson County to the south and east. Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources placed a GPS radio collar on the elk back in 2016 so they could monitor its movements.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation provided funding and volunteer manpower as part of the reintroduction effort.
