Wildlife biologists in Grand Canyon National Park will capture ten elk and place GPS collars on them. The goal is to monitor the animals’ movements from late August into October in order to develop an elk management plan.

According to the Associated Press, biologists want to gain a better understanding where and how elk interact with the 2,000 people that live at the Grand Canyon’s South Rim.

The collars are made to fall off after a couple of years.
