Elk NetworkFederal Government Appeals Yellowstone Grizzly Ruling

Conservation | January 3, 2019

The U.S. government is appealing a federal judge’s decision that removed the Yellowstone area grizzly population from state management and returned it to federal protections.

Federal and state officials maintain the population, which stands at more than 700 in the region, is recovered and should be managed by state agencies which manage all other wildlife.

The state of Wyoming already filed an appeal.  The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation filed a notice of appeal meaning they can decide at a later date whether to formally appeal the decision.
