Permits are not being made available, but North Carolina seems to be setting the table for a possible future elk hunting season.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is holding a series of public meetings regarding some newly proposed hunting and fishing regulations. Among them is one that adds elk, alligators and feral pigs to the list of species that can be taken during archery season.
According to the Citizen Times, biologist Justin McVey says the regulation is being proposed in case an elk hunt is established sometime down the road.
