Elk NetworkRecord Year for Arkansas Elk Hunt

General | January 3, 2019

Hunters in Arkansas took a record 67 elk during the 2018 hunting season, 12 more than the previous high. They did so both on public and private land.

“Private-land elk hunters were very successful during both seasons,” Wes Wright, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission elk program coordinator, told the Magnolia Reporter. “The new private-land elk hunt permit system offered increased opportunity for hunters – this was reflected in the harvest.”

None of the harvested elk tested positive for chronic wasting disease although biologists removed two elk from the landscape that appeared to show effects of the disease. According to the Magnolia Reporter, both tested positive for CWD.
