Elk NetworkUSFWS Director Aurelia Skipwith: ‘Hunting is a Way of Life’

General | February 16, 2020

There is no doubt that U.S. Fish and Wildlife (USFWS) Director Aurelia Skipwith loves America’s outdoor and hunting heritage.

“Some call hunting and fishing a way of life; I call it living. I grew up in Mississippi and if we didn’t grow it or kill it, we didn’t eat it,” Skipwith told the NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum. “I will fight every single day to do what is right. Conserving our national heritage is a link to our democracy.”

With the support of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and other like-minded organizations, the Senate confirmed Skipwith as USFWS director in December 2019. She visited RMEF headquarters in Missoula, Montana, several months earlier. She also recently visited with RMEF volunteers hosting a booth at the 2020 Pacific Northwest Sportsmen’s Show in Portland, Oregon.
