Elk NetworkWatch Mule Deer Migrate 200 Miles in 3D Video

General | August 23, 2019

The Wyoming Migration Initiative joined forces with its cartography team at the University of Oregon InfoGraphics Lab to create a 3D visualization to show how a mule deer doe traveled 200 miles across Wyoming.

Scientists believe the animal learned the route from its mother, who inherited that knowledge from past migrations.

Gregory Nickerson and Matthew Kauffman produced the video. Kauffman recently received the RMEF Conservationist of the Year award for 2018.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is currently hosting an interactive exhibit that tracks the migration routes of nine different elk herds across the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. See more details about it, including a video, here.
