Elk NetworkWatch: Oregon Bull Elk Freed from Power Lines

Curiosity almost got the better of an elk in southwest Oregon. The Roosevelt bull got all tangled up in some telephone and cable wires near Butte Falls.

The Oregon State Police worked with biologists from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) to tranquilize the animal, cut the wires from its antlers and send it on its way.

“It’s just in their nature to always be playing with things with their antlers. They can’t help themselves,” Mathew Vargas, ODFW biologist told The Oregonian. “It was a good team effort,” Vargas said. “We always hope for incidents like this to go so smoothly. You couldn’t have asked for better.”
